2021 Provincial Effective Speaking Competition

On Saturday April 24, all eight regional Effective Speaking Competition finalists met virtually to take part in the provincial competition.

The Air Cadet League’s Effective Speaking Competition takes place on a variety of levels (local, regional, provincial and national) and aims to help cadets improve their presentation in public, boost their self-confidence and express themselves more effectively.

Sgt Perrine Yode from Squadron 921 Optimiste L’Ancienne-Lorette, winner of the provincial competition, will go on to represent Québec et Vallée de l’Outaouais at the national competition, which will be held on June 5, 2021.

The Effective Speaking Competition is divided into two parts. First, all candidates must present a prepared 5 to 6-minute speech on a topic of their choice that is based on the themes provided by the Air Cadet League of Canada. Second, they must present a 2-3-minute impromptu speech. The theme of this speech was the same for all candidates and they only had 3 minutes to prepare. This year, the theme of the impromptu speech was: “How would you explain to a young person all the benefits of participating in a public speaking competition?”

Congratulations to all participants for your exceptional performances!
