Donation from Mr. W. G. Cyr

St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, November 8, 2024 – The Quebec and Ottawa Valley Provincial Committee (QOVPC) of the Air Cadet League of Canada is proud to announce that we have received a donation of $750,000 from Mr. Welley Gérard Cyr. This donation is earmarked for the provincial post-secondary scholarships, which will be renamed in his honor. Under the agreement signed between Mr. Cyr and the QOVPC, the number of provincial scholarships and their values will increase starting with the 2024-2025 training year. A total of 28 scholarships will be available each year. The value of each scholarship will be $1,000 in 2024-2025, and will be indexed annually thereafter to the cost of living.

Mr. Cyr is a long-time supporter of the QOVPC. After a long career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Mr. Cyr approached the QOVPC to provide financial support to cadets in squadrons in the northern sector (the Saguenay/Lac St-Jean/Nord du Québec and Abitibi regions). This support of close to $200,000 over the past 12 years has helped establish annual regional post-secondary scholarships, and contributed to the sponsorship of aircraft flights and the transportation of squadron cadets to the flying site in this sector. Mr. Cyr's new donation does not affect the regional scholarships.

The QOVPC expresses its heartfelt thanks to Mr. Cyr for his financial support and generosity to the Air Cadet Program in Quebec and the Ottawa Valley.
