Any organization providing services to vulnerable persons has an obligation to take reasonable steps to ensure their safety and well-being. The Air Cadet League of Canada has established policies and procedures for the screening and registration of all volunteers to enable them to work with a squadron sponsoring committee or a regional committee, or at the provincial or national level.
Before being eligible to serve on a squadron sponsoring committee, a regional committee or at the provincial level, any volunteer in Quebec or the Ottawa Valley must have successfully completed the screening process of the Quebec and Ottawa Valley Provincial Committee and received confirmation of this. A screening renewal process is also in place, and must be completed before the screening expiry date (typically every five years).
The registration and screening process is described in detail in the Guide (CPQVO-613) below. Once all required documents have been received at the provincial office, the verification and approval process can take from four to six weeks to complete. Some of these delays (e.g. criminal background checks) are beyond the league’s control and cannot be shortened or avoided.
Approved screening is valid for 5 years minus 1 day.
